Art on the Beltline (2010)

In Spring 2010, nearly eight miles of the Atlanta BeltLine corridor was opened to pedestrians and off-road bicyclists via an interim trail. “Art on the BeltLine: Atlanta’s New Public Place” was a temporary art project that placed visual and performance art installations, as well as historic site interpretation, at different points along the corridor to draw the public onto the BeltLine as Atlanta’s new public realm. The exhibit ran from May through October of 2010.

As part of the Beltline Public Art Initiative, UrbanRemix held a series of public walks at which participants used mobile phones to collectively construct an interactive audio map to document the sounds of the Beltline. In addition, anyone could download the UrbanRemix mobile application to capture and contribute their own sounds and images of the BeltLine, and anyone could use the UrbanRemix web site to explore the contributed sounds and mix their own soundscapes of the Beltline. On June 26, 2010, UrbanRemix held a live performance event on the BeltLine, featuring local electronic musician Recompas remixing the collected sounds.
